03.23.09: The Cigarette is Dead lights up Weld County
Smoking can outside of Papa Johns
Smoking can outside of Papa John's

Last fall we worked with STEPP to launch The Cigarette Is Dead movement in Colorado to convince smokers to quit once and for all. We made a bold statement by taking over neighborhoods in Metro Denver and in major cities across the state. Our intention was to tell the campaign's story and connect people who have their own personal stories on quitdoingit.com.

But, as with any social marketing campaign, The Cigarette is Dead needed to be culturally relevant and locally activated. We engineered the campaign with the tools necessary for local health agencies (LHA), community-based organizations and even average Joe's to ignite the campaign in their neighborhoods.  We've also encouraged them to share their progress on FlickR and YouTube.

Last week we came across a blog post about the campaign in Weld County, where the movement is spreading like wildfire. Weld County Health Department isn't just posting flyers. They're a great example of how LHA's are energizing the local business community to help spread the movement in fresh ways. From pizza boxes and coasters, to bathroom stalls and smoking cans, Weld County has really made The Cigarette is Dead their own localized rallying cry against the cigarette. The Cigarette is Dead Billboard

03.23.09: Where the beep is Jay Leno??
Last week our media director, Jamie, gave us a challenge. Ok, for me it was a challenge. But it was a breeze for our copywriters and just about every other creative soul at Cactus. He charged us with writing captions for these fantastic photos of Jamie and Amanda (senior media buyer) with Conan O'Brien. See the winning captions written by junior copywriter, Elliot Nordstrom, below. Think you have a better caption? Comment on this post and let us know.

Jamie: Come on mate, I thought we agreed on cream colored coats. Cream!
