Personally, I love the fact that the song starts with the sentiment of, “Hey, you’re a great friend who’s always been there for me. Thanks.” But then, somehow, it goes into this completely hypothetical scenario for no particular reason. “So, let’s just say that maybe sometime in the not-too-distant future you were gonna throw some kind of party. And let’s say that in throwing this party you decided to invite a lot of people. Heck, let’s even say you go ahead and invite everyone you know. Well you’re gonna be at this party, and on your way to get some more fruit punch, you’re gonna glance over at the gift table. And what are you gonna see there? Lots of gifts. Lots of ‘em. But there’s gonna be one gift in particular that you just can’t take your eyes off of. Why? ‘Cause it’s gonna be frickin HUGE. In fact, it’ll probably be three huge gift boxes stacked on top of one another and tied together with a giant bow. Biggest gift at the party! And that’s from me, baby. From me! But that’s not all. Go ahead and walk over to that big-ass gift and read the card. You know what it’s gonna say? “Thank you for being a friend.” That’s what. Who loves ya like I do, baby? That’s right—nobody.”

I don’t get that. But I love it.
