Well executed political videos |
Every now and then we run into people who think art and business, or creativity and business, don’t really mix. Here is a great example that proves that notion dead wrong. Ideas executed well can shift perceptions, motivate and move people. When an idea is expressed and executed well it can be immensely powerful, emotional and thought provoking. Oh, and it can get results.
On YouTube alone in just one week there are over 2M views of this video — just think of all the blogs and forums where this is also spreading. In fact, it’s been so successful at generating views that in just one week, you reading this now is old news. No matter which candidate you support, from a marketing view point you have to respect this piece as a smart idea executed well on all levels.
In a similar fashion it reminds me of the Phil Dusenberry film he and his cohorts made in the 80’s for Reagan called “A New Beginning” and the “Morning in America” series of ads from the same theme and film assets of the documentary.
Dusenberry, the former Chairman of BBDO, used the art of advertising to make an 18 minute documentary that garnered huge results — like getting Reagan elected again. Politics, advertising, technology, and even consumer behavior, have changed drastically since the Reagan era. But thankfully, the power of a simple idea executed well has not.
