09.26.07:
Thanks for not smoking, Colorado |
|
As with any campaign we work on at Cactus , for our tobacco
control public education campaigns for STEPP, we set out to meet measurable objectives
whenever possible. This week it was nice to hear from Governor Ritter that,
thanks in part to our work with the state, Colorado has surpassed the Centers for
Disease Control’s goal for the state to reduce youth tobacco use rates to 16%
by 2010.
According to the Youth Tobacco Attitudes and Behaviors
Survey (TABS), Colorado
youth tobacco rates have decreased to 14% in 2006/07 from 18% in 2002. This is
a huge leap and has far out-paced the CDC’s goal. Overall, Colorado’s
smoking rate declined four percent between 2001 and 2006, placing Colorado on the nation’s
top ten list of the states with the lowest smoking rates.
