Last week Cactus was recognized by the Art Directors Club of Denver (ADCD) with 25 awards, including Best of Show for its “Own Your C” television commercials promoting youth tobacco prevention.
Now, we're a modest group at Cactus. So, instead of tooting our own horn, we'll let someone else do it for us.
Lewis Communications creative director Stephen Curry, an ADCD awards
show judge, said (about Own Your C) “Some of this stuff was weird. No really, I'm talking
like, seriously weird. Then again, I'm not a 14-year-old. But you know
something? From what I know about 14-year-olds, I suspect this stuff
hit the mark beautifully, capturing their attention in a disarming,
smart way. You can't approach teens in any sort of linear way and
expect any sort of success. Disarming the viewer with a moment of humor
or of the unexpected is what our jobs are all about. Otherwise, we'd
all just be printing strategy briefs in the newspapers. This campaign
did anything but that.”

Our
favorite award of the evening was actually titled Monkey Excrement.
That's not our name folks, but we're thrilled it's
printed on our trophy.
