Simpsons movie creates buzz with Kwik-E-Marts |
We love "The Simpsons Movie " advertising and cross promotion strategy. Accoring to an Associated Press article , "7-Eleven turned a dozen stores into Kwik-E-Marts, the fictional
convenience stores of "The Simpsons" fame, in the latest example of
marketers making life imitate art.
Those stores and most of the 6,000-plus other 7-Elevens in North
America will sell items that until now existed only on television: Buzz
Cola, KrustyO's cereal and Squishees, the slushy drink knockoff of
Slurpees."
Even more, we love that one of the new Kwik-E-Marts is just 5 minutes away from Cactus . We had to see it for ourselves, and taste test some frogurt, so we took a field trip last Friday.
20th Century Fox
is taking a non-traditional approach to its other advertising partners
for the movie as well. Unlike other summer blockbusters, it has limited
its sponsorship partners to only four, including Burger King, 7-Eleven,
JetBlue and Vans shoes. These partnerships are creating tremendous
buzz, although the advertising sponsors may pay far less than
traditional movie advertisers. You can read more about this strategy in
The Hollywood Reporter and Advertising Age .
The movie opens July 27 -- I think it's worthy of a Cactus field trip, so we'll let you know how it is. In the meantime, check out our favorite Simpson quotes .
